The super matt finish of Hahnemüle Photorag makes it one of the most popular papers amongst artists, illustrators & photographers alike. 2.5 Baruk Serna for 'Dancers on Rooftops' | Feb 23, 2022 | Mexico City, Mexico

A fragment of a second captured mid-air during one of the last sessions of DoR.
This was on one of the last days of my first visit to Mexico at the beginning of 2022.
During this shoot on the roof of Baruk’s home, we took 2396 photos. Both of us moving around, letting ourselves go and flow where ever and however. At some point, I saw the late afternoon sun throwing her light on the fence, which left a beautiful setting diagonal shadow lines behind one of Baruk’s plants. As an improvised idea, I suggested to Baruk to try a few jumps.

From the day I picked up a camera, I was fascinated with how many of the dancers I was working enter a state of “Flow” and it made me strive to reach this same state while behind the camera. I photograph and try to think without thinking. React without reacting. The compositions sometimes come out skewed and I need to straighten them later. It's a fine balancing act being in it while being totally out of it. When I achieve this Flow state, I become completely immersed in the present moment and lose track of time. I am one with the dancer.
This jump happened out of being there. It's a remarkable experience entering this state in sync with the dancers, and to be able to immortalise these moments in my photographs is truly exceptional.
