Dancers on Rooftops is the 2nd part of EDITIONS - featuring 5 photographs from my DoR project, each available as Limited Edition prints in 3 different sizes from £95 GBP. Prints from Ed #2 will only be available until June 5, whether they sell out or not.

Olga [6:16am, 2008 - Israel]
I was 26 when I took this photo in Hadar, Haifa - a few streets down from the hospital I was born in.
Fast forward 4 years; it inspired a project called 'Dancers on Rooftops', resulting in about 65k photos taken over 14 years - featuring a total of 57 dancers, on 43 rooftops in 9 different countries 🤯
The project offers a subtle yet enticing perspective on what it means to dance upon metaphorical and literal cityscapes.
The concept of Home lies between our most basic need – shelter – and the enigmatic desire to animate space with movement, belonging and connection.

Nathalie [2012 - UK]
She said she used to be a dancer; and the project was an excuse to revive her Dance passion.
An early DoR photo taken in my London neighbourhood, my Home away from Home.
This photo is a timeless reminder that we are all dancers, from the moment we're born until we die.
Dance, in almost all cultures, is the ecstatic exploration of how one inhabits their own body and how that body inhabits space. “Wherever there’s a rooftop, a dancer and a camera” - from London to the Middle East, Hopper explores the way bodies bring buildings to life, and vice versa, through the contrast between living, organic limbs and raw, exposed architecture.

Tiago [2021 - Portugal]
"The body is a vehicle of physical, intellectual and artistic expression, and movement is the language that connects and brings together all of these tools through me. I do it because it represents who I am.
I was away from Lisbon for almost ten years and without noticing, I began to miss it so much. That meant that I was in love with it because you only miss what you love."
"I photograph with the awareness that beneath the rooftops lie houses, and within those walls, people living their lives in countless different configurations."

Maria [2021 - Greece]
Taken on the island of Aegina, on top of the roof where Maria and her friends used to lay at night stargazing as children.
In many ways, the photograph beautifully links with how the project communicates ideas and connections between our bodily-vessel with our movements of dance, and the house-vessels we call Home.
65,000 photos | 57 Sessions | 57 Dancers | 43 Rooftops | 32 minutes (average duration of a session) | 31 hours (all sessions duration combined) | 14 years in the making (2008-2022) | 9 Countries (Bolivia, Canada, Finland, France, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Portugal and UK)

Baruk [2022 - Mexico]
Both of us moving around, letting ourselves go and flow where ever and however. The late afternoon sun throwing her light on the fence; A fragment of a second captured mid-air during one of the last sessions of DoR on the roof of Baruk’s home. One fragment out of the 2396 photos we took.

— Work like you don't need the money, dream like you'll live forever, live like you're going to die tomorrow, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like nobody's watching.
Immortalising a time fragment in a photograph can be mystical and magical. With these prints, I want to share that enigma with you. When looking at them, I hope you feel some of the wonder and awe I experienced when I photographed those images — reminding you that moments of beauty and grace persist even within the chaos of the world around us.
Thank you in advance for all of your support!
Ben Hopper 🙏❤️
